Measuring the pulse

General information about monitoring the heart rate
The simplest heart rate measuring method is using a heart rate monitor, which consists of a wrist watch containing a receiver that handles signals from the heart rate chest belt itself. The belt is a transmitter that you place around your thorax just below the breastbone. Heart beats are created by means of a small, electrical signal. The heart rate chest belt picks up this signal, and once information about these signals has been transmitted to the watch, we are able to find out the heart rate per minute.

You might also want to monitor your heart rate yourself by placing a finger onto your artery and count the number of beats per minute, however, this is a slightly difficult method to administer during training activities.
